A few months ago I was interviewed by Carla for the West Volusia magazine. They want to focus on local businesses and local women. So this morning I get a phone call from a few people saying that they opened their paper and saw Larissa on the front cover of a magazine! My interview made it into the magazine and I got the front cover! My parents were down visiting from WV and they saw it at my grandmother's house. I don't get the paper delivered so my parents went out to go buy a few copies. But the magazine isn't in the store copies, just the home delivered copies! So I drove down to my grandma's house and snapped a few photos of the magazine.

I know, I'm always behind on updating the blog. I just end up forgetting about it or I don't feel like formatting my images, or thinking of little things to write about. I don't know how the big photographers keep up with blogs, websites, twitter, facebook, etc plus all the other advertising they do! Whew!

I spent the night at the bride's mother and father's house. She is such a great friend of mine, it was nice to spend her last night there with her! We woke up and took some shots of her dress and jewelry around the house. There were so many things that I wanted to use, I love the decorations in that house! And I didn't just overexpose the window, that is SNOW outside!
I grabbed their favorite photo of Emily when she was younger and snapped a few photos of the photo with her dress/shoes
This is a bowling ball that Emily's mom grouted glass to. See what I mean? There were just too many great props to use!

They got dressed at the little hall where the wedding and reception was, which meant NO room to photograph. White concrete block bathroom walls and a hallway, and I was shooting mostly with my 50mm lens.
They were both sqeezing on the floor while I was squeezing myself on the other side of the hallway trying to get these shots!

I thought it was adorable that he was looking at her instead of down at her hand while he was putting the ring on. He was taking in the moment, cherishing it.

We had these awesome trains parked outside to play on. The only problem was that it was only 32 degrees outside!

Natural Child Portraiture

I don't blog about my children much, but we are the proud parents of two adorable little girls. We have a 2 1/2 year old, and a 5 month old. With two parents that are photographers, you probably won't be surprised that we've taken over 20,000 photos of our children. That being said, in 2009 we are going to be offering child portrait packages in addition to our regular family portrait packages. So I'm not too fast on this blogger stuff. I format my photos before I upload them here, and it just takes so much time. I have a wedding from May, one from November, and some pregnancy and baby portraits to upload here, as long as some other fun stuff. I've been experiencing problems with my web hosting as well, but we are getting that worked out today.

This is a sample of normal color correction, blemish removal, brightening of eyes, and airbrushing of skin. We do this on the up close romantic shots that you order from your wedding or photo shoot

This is a sample of removal of large objects. We normally allow 2 per wedding, after that any removal of large objects will be charged per hour of work. This image took about 3 hours to complete

This wedding was absolutely beautiful. Outside at a family's house on a lake, with the huge Florida trees overhanging. Just a small amount of friends and family. Such a close and intimate occasion. We enjoyed ourselves so much, and got some amazing photos.

Two updates for you. Our phone number has changed from 407-574-3162 to 386-490-5716. These changes haven't been reflected on the website yet.

Also, we will not be taking any weddings or large events during the months of June, July, August, and September. We are going to be closed due to the fact that we are expecting our second child August 2nd!

The Breakdown of the Photo Book Prices

Our Photo Books range in price from $400.00 to $1,500.00. When asked why so expensive, here is a little break down of what you are paying for:

Let's take the most expensive book, the 80 Sided Asuka Book Bound Leather FX. It costs you $1,500.00. By the time you take out the price that We are charged for the book, plus taxes, shipping etc... we come up with a number. Dividing that number by the amount of Sides that we hand design, and you approve, we come up with roughly $12.00 a Side.

Two opposite sides make up a "page layout" which takes approximately an hour to hand design to perfection. So that means you are spending roughly $25.00 an hour for graphic design that you get to control! We run all the spreads by you for approval and let you rearrange the pages and the images however you like. We don't order the book until you are 100% satisfied with the layout of each page.

We are so sure that you will love the book that if you want to order a second or third book, you will get a huge discount off the original price!

When it comes to quality and control, you don't want to skimp out!

WV Senior Portraits

I was able to take a few weeks off in September to fly up to PA and WV to see friends and family. While I was there I got to do a senior portrait shoot. It was so wonderful to travel the countryside where I spent my teenage years. Here are a few of my favorite shots from that day. I will probably write another post later to show you more. I'm still playing catch up from all that time off work ;)

You have four more months left to book your wedding at the 2007 prices! As of 2008 our prices are going to be changing! Our Asuka brand Photo Books are at an incredibly low price this year, but in four months the prices are going to go up to the normal, but competative prices that you will find with other local photographers. So get booking! We also might be changing our packages to include photo credits instead of a certain amount of prints, since some brides are interested in just photo books and not loose prints. Keep an eye out for changes around the first of the year!

Updating

Currently Koontz Photography & Design is updating the way that we operate. With the new inclusion of web galleries, you no longer have to wait to see and share all of your images! But this presents a problem with our current contract and the way that we operate.

So we are going to be taking a look at the contract and the way that we do things, and updating it to suit our fast paced society and growing business! Please bear with us while we get everything reorganized to include this new feature to our site and our lives.

At the moment we wait until the Bride and Groom are back from their honeymoon to go over the proofs. They then select the images that they want edited and printed from their package, plus any extras that they want. At this time we collect the remainder of the fees due from the wedding package that was agreed upon in the contract. Then we spend time post processing each photo, and then we deliver the final product to the Bride and Groom. It's up to them to share the photos and get orders from their friends and family, which they then would have to contact us about, and get payment to us.

Now that we have the photo galleries it not only changes how fast you get to see the images, but it also means that we have to change the way that the final payment is made. It also means that you will be seeing mostly unedited photos, where the colors have not yet been corrected and blemishes have not yet been removed.

So bear with us while we are kicking up some dust and reorganizing the way we do things!
